ECCL Division Two started the season with a clash between Alicante based Intellectuals and a new club La Manga Kings. The latter intend to use the club to introduce youngsters to the game of cricket and give them the opportunity of competitive cricket in a league environment.

Intellectuals opened the batting at the Bonalba ground and lost two quick wickets before Richards calmed the home supporters nerves with a well crafted 43. Ahmed and Laurence McGarry ably supported the number three bat as the Intellectuals innings ended on 118 all out off 32.5 overs.

For the visitors there were excellent spells of bowling from C Hunt who took four wickets for 22 runs and A Ramon who returned figures of 3-24 in his six over spell.

In reply Kings opened with teachers Stefan Rumistrzewicz and Martin Harbour. They gave Kings a good foundation by both passing double figures but then both were run out in quick succession. A middle order collapse followed although T. Stevenson kept Kings in the game with a cultured 21. However, when he was clean bowled by Cormack resistance faded and the Intellectuals finally ended up winners by a mere 10 runs. Cormack was the pick of the bowlers for the home side taking four wickets at crucial periods in the game.

Torrevieja and Sporting Alfas II open their league campaigns on the 12th of April, with the Intellectuals again in action the following day when they entertain La Manga II at Bonalba.
