GJ ESTATES LANZAROTE CRICKET LEAGUE ROUNDUP

The first game saw St Georges play LCC. LCC won the toss and elected to field. LCC took an early wicket but then D.Smith (103) and A.French (35) steadied the ship with French falling on 114-2. Smith fell in the 31st over and St Georges finished up with a total of 217-4 to chase. LCC started well with M.Tahilani (29) scoring freely before falling in the 6th over. After the disappearance of the LCC captain, there was not much resistance with only one other batsman reaching double figures and LCC finishing on 76 all out.

The second game between Khalsa and LCC was a fairly one sided affair. Khalsa won the toss and in a bid to extend their Net Run Rate lead batted first. They scored 249 for 8 wickets with most of the batsmen chipping in. In reply, LCC struggled to get any momentum throughout the innings falling well short at 91 all out. Khalsa then went top of the table by a clear win with a massively favourable Net Run Rate leaving St Georges all the work to do in the final game of the season.

The final game of the season between St Georges and Cobras would decide the final league standings and proved to be the spectacle it deserved. Cobras winning the toss put St Georges in to bat. After losing an early wicket, St Georges seem settled reaching drinks at 113-1. Opener D.Smith (69) fell in the 22nd over leaving A.French (57) ticking over at the other end.

A further notable performance of 35 from the returning G.Dean (35*) saw St Georges rack up a total of 225-6. Responding, Cobras lost regular wickets seeing them collapse to 55-9. A final wicket stand of 56 between M.Evans (37*) and K. (16) saw the Cobras finish on 111 all out. Some fantastic bowling from St Georges including a magnificent spell from captain N.French of 7 overs, 5wickets for only 20 runs.

A huge congratulations goes to Khalsa CC on winning the GJ ESTATES LANZAROTE CRICKET LEAGUE in the year of their inception. They beat reigning Champions; St Georges; by a Net Run Rate of less than 0.2 with both sides having the same amount of points.
