CRICKET PRESENTATION IN MADRID

On the 20th of November in a packed auditorium at the Escuela Oficial de Idiomas in Tres Cantos, Madrid, the Vice President of Madrid Cricket Club, Lewis Clark, gave an hour long talk to students on the sport of cricket.

Dressed in whites and armed with a collection of cricket equipment, Lewis started with a brief history of the game along with some of its stand-out figures such as WG Grace and Donald Bradman. He then covered the rudiments of the sport and its equipment, using videos to give the audience an idea of what a modern professional game looks like.

The talk also mentioned the cultural diversity of the sport and its global coverage, before moving on to stories of how cricket can act as a positive force for good in the most unlikely of places, from the rise of the Afghan national side, the Maasai Mara cricket team, to the Rwanda cricket stadium project.

The event finished off with a presentation of Madrid CC’s fund raising activities and trip to Serbia to provide cricket equipment for refugees.

A big thanks to Rosa Gonzalez, head of English at the Escuela Oficial de Idiomas for the invitation to talk about cricket.
