A Cricket Espana directorate consisting of Phil Beal, Juan Carlos Rodriquez, George Wambeek and Neil Brook were invited to San Fulgencio Town Hall on Weds 18th March by La Marina Coach John Algar to discuss the possibility of a cricket facility on the La Marina Urbanization just a few kilometers south of Alicante,
John Algar, one of the Cricket Espana coaches has been coaching children’s cricket at La Marina for last 2 years and it now seems all the hard work is paying off as the Town Hall are very interested in turning a piece off wasteland in to a park and a cricket ground.
San Fulgencio Sports Minister Juan Antonio Gonzalez Palanca and Councilor Mark Lewis, were aware of the cricket coaching taking place in La Marina and how popular cricket was in the area and after a productive meeting took the view of developing a ground.
The Cricket Espana Committee said it would fully support the council plans for cricket and offered John help to introduce more players to La Marina, meanwhile the San Fulgencio Minister of Sport will liaise with Cricket Espana President Juan Carlos Rodriquez over future plans.
The Minister of Sport mention that the area would be ready to use by the end of the year and that they were also looking at a larger area of land that is scheduled to be a golf driving range and that this area too could be possibly used as a shared sports facility.
Cricket Espana would like to thank John Algar for all his efforts and hopefully the residents of La Marina can watch cricket being played at a new venue in their area very soon.
