To date seven matches have been played in the Cataluyna League for 2016. The first match of the season pitted Barcelona CC v Hawks Cricket Club at Videres.
Barcelona won the toss and elected to bat. The manage to post the demanding total of 248 for 8 from their 30 overs. Saeed top scored with 53 and he was well supported by Sagir (49) and for the league newcomers Faisal bagged four wickets for just 38 runs.
In reply the Hawks struggled and were all out for 71. Naheed took four wickets for just 16 runs to post an 177 run victory.
Game 2 was the battle of the Tigers, Olot and Cataluyna. Cataluyna batted first and made 250 for 9. Alamdan scored 51 and Tahir and Kashif both added 41 runs each. Sonu had the best bowling figures for Olot, notching three wickets for 48 runs.
Olot did not get close to the Olot score and were all out for 123. Hafiz took four wickets for just twenty runs and was instrumental in giving his team a 127 run victory.
The third match of the season was United CC against Girona Warriors and it was the Warriors who gained a 7 wicket victory. United were all out for just 138 in 23 overs. The first five United batsmen failed to reach double figures and it was left to Basharat, batting at nine, to give the total some momentum with an innings worth 27 runs. Nazim took 4-57 for the Warriors.
The Warriors batting was much more slick and a second wicket partnership between Guldeep (61) and Ghuran (39) effectively won the game. Both fell near the end but by then the victory had been secured for the Warriors.
The fourth game saw Badalona Shaheen take on Espluges. Badalona batted first and posted a total of 250 for 7. Dilawar hit 70 and Saeemad added 65 to the Shaheen total. Espluges had no answer to the Badalona bowling attack and fell 100 runs short of their required goal. Ali put in a great effort in the field to go home with match figures of five wickets for just 21 runs.
The next match to take place was Cornella Coalesce against Minhaj. Minhaj batted first and scored 251 for 6. Rauf hit 75 and Asjid scored 70 in their 121 run victory. In reply Coalesce were all out for 128 in just 20 overs. Tahir hit 35 but the outstanding performance was from the bowler Hamza, who took five wickets at regular intervals.
Next up was the game between Youngster and Bengali. Bengali batted first and were all out for a meagre 117. Qais was the main thorn in Benali’s side has he grabbed six wickets.
Youngster won with 4 wickets to spare. They were indebted to Tanveer who hit a fantastic 70 not out after the loss of several early wickets. Match seven saw a match up between two of the new teams in the league, Hawks CC and El Carmel and it was the Hawks who emerged victorious to secure their first point of the season at the second attempt.
