The Cartama Oval will welcome the prestigious Melbourne Cricket Club to Southern Spain this weekend for the “Spashes” (the Spanish Ashes 2023).
The Australian outfit, who count Dean Jones and Max Walker amongst their previous plays come to Cartama as part of their European tour and will play two games on Spanish soil.
An excited Costa Del Sol President Jay Wild commentated, ” This weekend the Cartama Oval welcomes the Melbourne Cricket Club to Malaga as part of their European Tour undertaken every two years to coincide with the ashes. In celebration of their visit during this crucial summer of cricket over in the UK, CricketAndaluz have named this tour ‘The Spanish Ashes’.
“The teams will take on the visitors over 2 days of 40 over matches consisting of a CDSCC President’s XI to play Saturday 17th June and an Andalucian Select XI made up of all 4 of the regions clubs to play Sunday 18th June. Awards for good performances during ‘The Spashes’ will be presented at the end of this two-day series. Good luck to everyone involved and welcome Melbourne CC to the home of European Cricket.”
