BARCELONA OVERCOME LAST YEARS WINNERS SINSEN

BARCELONA BEAT FAVOURITES FROM NORWAY TO WIN T20 FINAL 

Barcelona triumphed over Sinsen A to win this years Tournament at La Manga on Monday 29 October. Despite poor weather on the Sunday that threatened to decimate the Tournament, Barcelona overcame Combined Colleges, the Costa Blanca XI twice and Mojacar in the Semi Finals before being drawn against Sinsen A in the Final. After the First Round Sinsen B, Grasshoppers from Ulster and Intellectuals were eliminated.  

The 8 remaining teams contested the Quarter Finals and Semi Finals. In overs reduced games, brought about by persistent, heavy rain on Sunday when only two games were played late in the afternoon, the Costa Blanca XI lost out to bad light. Early rain on Monday delayed the start. The remaining QFs and SFs were reduced to 10 overs per innings. Sinsen A beat fellow Norwegians The Lions to book their place in the Final. In the other SF Barcelona beat Mojacar in a closer game. In a bad- tempered Final, during which the Sinsen Captain was instructed to speak to his wicketkeeper after showing dissent, Barcelona took their catches well and Sinsen dropped too many catchable skiers.  

George Wambeek, the Tournament Director, presented the Cup to an ecstatic Barcelona team who thoroughly deserved to win the Tournament despite some close games along the way. The Presentation ceremony was broadcast live on Barcelona Radio. The Lions of Norway were placed Third on superior Over Run Rate to Mojacar. The Man of the Tournament was Zaka of Barcelona.
