Andalucian Cricket T20 League – Game Week 2

Match between Granada CC and Malaga CC meant the new look Malaga were taking on the current Andalucian League champions with mixed conditions forecast it was difficult to know how the day might turn out.

Match 3

Granada CC won the toss and elected to bat first. Their opener Nico Watkins contributed well with the bat for 28 runs, although GCC were soon 3 wickets down thanks to a good 2nd and 3rd over from Nasir Dar cleaning up the two openers. Middle-order batsman, Paul Cone, came into steady the ship, adding 22, thought Granada continued to lose wickets. Gerry O’Brien added another 15 runs before he was stumped trying to up the scoring rate, which left Granada on 108 for 8 off their 20 overs.

For Malaga CC’s innings, the overhead cloud had worsened and much of the game was played under rainfall, however, both sides felt they still could have an impact and carried on. Malaga required 5.45 an over and the game looked finely poised for the first 5 overs with tight bowling from Sebin Xavier, Aakash Tufchi and Richie Abbott but once Syed Qalib had reached his 32 aided by Nasir Dar with his 19 runs, the game was looking to be going Malaga’s way. Granada’s need for wickets was answered by Abbott and Jamie Preece, however Malaga dealt with the pressure and the run rate. Asif Tarar saw the greens to the total, finishing his innings on 19 not out as Malaga reached the 109 runs they needed for victory.

Result: Malaga CC win by 4 wickets.

Match 4

As the weather had deteriorated over the second innings of the first game and with the ground now under thunder and lightning, the decision was taken by the umpires to call the second game off with no more play for the rest of the day.

Result: Both teams will be offered a replay
