ALFAS CONTINUE WINNING WAYS WITH A LEAGUE VICTORY OVER ALCORCON

Sporting Alfas continued their winning streak with a convincing league win over Madrid based Alcorcon. The Albir based first string XI won the toss and elected to bat on a glorious day at the Woodbridge Oval.

Openers Spencer and Pennick looked at ease in seeing off the new ball, offering no encouragement to the Alcorcon bowlers. With a minimum of fuss they put on a century partnership before the 15th over drinks break and both looked set for very big scores.

The curse of the drinks break saw first Spencer (73) and then Pennick (52) removed in quick succession and with the middle order not firing Alfas saw their score diluted fro 115 for 0 wickets to 189 for 6. A fine 43 by Castellon based Rob Tasker, making his first league appearance of the season stopped the rot completely and Alfas finally finished 227 all out off 43.2 overs.

At the interval Alcorcon were well and truely in the game. However, a needless run out of opener Akmal with the score on 4, and then the removal of danger man Tariq Ali cheaply left them reeling at 18 for 2. A steady flurry of wickets for Alfas as the opening bowlers Laundon and Pennick bowled their nine overs straight through with great accuracy and economy put the Madrid based side deep in trouble. A testament of Alfas´s authority was the fact the last wicket pair of Jaffar and Waqas had the best partnership of the game for Alcorcon as they added on 27 for the 10th wicket, and in doing so, secured s solitary batting point for Alcorcon, as thery were bowled out for 100 in 26.4 overs.

Alfas took 19 points from the game and Alcorcon 6 points. 

In the other premier league game, half of the Madrid United side failed to make the ground at La Manga in time and consequently were timed out of batting leaving La Manga needing to score just 11 runs which they duly did without losing a wicket.

As a consequence, La Manga gained a maximum 20 points, whilst Madrid United were penalised 12 points for the infringement.
