ALBOX PLAY FIRST EVER GAME

Having won the toss and electing to bat, Alfas were given an excellent start by Ali and Climent. Ali was again in devastating form as he rapidly reached eighty-two before he fell to the bowling of Stannard with the total standing at 110.Things could have been vastly different however if Albox had hung on to at least three chances that they put down in the field, before either opener had really got going. When Climent (26) departed shortly afterwards, the only further major contribution to the Alfas score was made by Taylor, who had compiled an undefeated fifty-five when the innings closed with the total standing at 231-6. The pick of the Albox bowlers was Stannard, who claimed 3-51.

The Albox reply started badly when Howden claimed two early wickets. Apart from Greaves (21) none of the other Albox batsmen were able to cope with the Alfas bowling attack and the team was somewhat disappointingly dismissed in twenty-sixth over. The final total of ninety, giving Alfas an easy one hundred and forty-one run victory. For Alfas, Pennick took the bowling honours as he claimed 4-11.

The game was played in a great spirit and the addition of another team in the league is testimant to all the hard work Leon Harris, Tony Wilton and all the Albox boys have put in over recent months.Their ground continues to develop and concrete practice strips were being placed in Albox the weekend of the Alfas fixture. With regular practice in their new surroundings and further fixtures to follow Albox will no doubt be a much stronger proposition when they start their league campaign in a few months time.
