Jesper Hansen and Luke Turner conquer Lewes CC

Crusaders v Lewes Cricket  Club

Lewes cc from Sussex England toured Malaga Cartama oval for a 35 over game on Sunday 22 April. Jesper Hansen the captain of crusaders won the toss and elected to bat first on the newly opened grass pitch. The ground opened after 11 months to the touring side.

Chris started the proceedings for Lewes CC and rattled Diego’s off stump of the first ball of the match. Luke and Josh played out the initial first few testing overs before Josh took off, Josh smashed 5 boundaries in an over and scored a Quick-fire 29 off 11 balls.

Once Josh was dismissed Jesper Hansen came to the crease. Luke and Jesper Hansen ran well between the wickets and put away the bad balls. Both batsmen scored their respective half centuries and looked in set for a big one.

Luke got to his maiden 50 in his first match for crusaders and was dismissed after scoring 80 of 54 balls. Jesper Hansen scored his 5th hundred of 59 balls and was retired out.

The third wicket partnership of 210 between Luke and Jesper put crusaders in driver’s seat. In spite of losing all their wickets Crusaders managed 324 off 35 overs. For Lewes CC Chris took 1-34 and John 3-67.

Lewes CC openers Steve and Matthew came out all guns blazing and took crusaders attack to cleaners in the first few overs. Needing almost 10 runs per over. Steve smacked 3 sixes in an over to get to his half century.

The openers put on 101 runs for the first wicket .Oshan Dias got the breakthrough for crusaders by dismissing Steve for 39 ball 67. That put the brakes on the scoring.  James, Luke and Usman bowled tight overs in the middle with accuracy. Usman bowled with great pace with Luke supporting him with some swing. James Riley’s Mystery spin was hard to pick.

Lewes CC batsmen tried their best to come close to the target. But 324 was too much to chase against a formidable attack. Lewes CC ended up on 243-5 off 35 overs losing by 79 runs. For Crusaders Oshan Dias took 1-12 and James Riley took 2-25.

Jesper Hansen was the man of the match for his swashbuckling hundred
