CRICKET IN LANZAROTE

CRICKET IS THRIVING IN LANZAROTE. 8 CLUBS, A COMPLETE LEAGUE PROGRAMME AND A 15/15 TOURNAMENT TO START THE SEASON OFF.

The association started in 2005 with just three teams competing, but this year 8 teams will be competing in the league championship, cup competitions and the start of the season sees the 15/15 competition. This year will see the inclusion of the local colts team from the international school, Collegio Hispano Britanico, Puerto Del Carmen. The colts team with ages ranging from 12-18 have played friendlies against other teams in the past and against the other teams on the island for the last year or too.

Jack Talbot, the chairman and organiser of the Lanzarote league, and the Head of Physical Education at CHB says “as well as the colts team we also have juniors from all the different nationalities in the school learning the game of cricket.

Cricket on the island is played on artificial grass as there are no grass pitches and cricket on the island is also very dependent on the local Ayuntamientos allowing the use of football pitches. The draw for the 15/15 tournament was drawn at the recent Lanzarote Cricket AGM. The draw matched the Colts with St Georges. THE 15/15 KNOCKOUT TOURNAMENT REGULATIONS.

The Tournament will be a straight knockout of a quarter final, semi final and final.  

Each team will have 60 mins to bowl the allotted overs.

A maximum of 3 overs per bowler.

The draw was made at the LCA Committee meeting on 17th of January.
