CRICKET ESPANA ACADEMY V TOM MAYNARD TRUST – MATCH TWO

Match Two proved even more difficult for the Cricket Espana Academy as the Tom Maynard Trust ran out convincing winners by 130 runs.

The Trust batted first and showed the quality and depth in their squad by changing their batting order around with Alex Barrow (Somerset) and Alex Wakely (Northants) opening second time around.

100 runs to the good by the tenth over without the loss of a wicket the Cricket Espana youngsters could have been forgiven for getting downhearted. However, to their credit, they stuck to the task at hand, and La Manga youngster Tom Vine was rewarded with the wicket of Wakely with the score on 123.

However, the pick of the bowlers for CE was the full Spanish International Atif Ali, who took 3 wickets for 35 in his four over spell. Barrow finally went for 75, and small cameos from Thompson (31), Chris Wood (35), and Jack Murphy (12 not out) gave the visitors a final tally of 230 for 6.

The Academy never looked like achieving the daunting deficit and at the close of their innings had carded 90 for 6. Pennick, Morgan, Atif Ali and Bhavin Khakkad all reached double figures, but none went on to post a significant score as the Trust once again proved their superiority.

Again, all eight bowlers used by the Trust had impressive figures, with Sunny Singh and Adam Tillcock proving the most fruitful, with two wickets apiece.

It was a fantastic experience for the Cricket Academy, some who gathered later to attend the La Manga Cricket Awards Ceremony were the Maynard Trust were guests of honour. Many thanks to all spectators, and auxillary staff of Cricket Espana for creating such an enjoyable day and special thanks go to Matt Maynard and his squad for being such great ambassadors for cricket both on and off the pitch.
