COSTA CRICKET KIDS
A very warm, Sunday 20th June saw the Malaga Age Group 6-a-side Soft Ball Cricket Competitions being staged at Aloha Gardens in Marbella. Eighty Two (82) young players turned out to represent a total of 16 teams from Schools and Clubs along the coast (Malaga to Sotogrande) and put on a great showing in keenly contested competitions to decide the Champions of the Malaga Region in two age groups, Under 14 and Under 12.
A great display of their young talent, it was nail biting stuff and highly entertaining for the large crowd in attendance. Such was the closeness of the encounters in the round robin stages; the Under 14 Age Group had Sunland and Aloha Allstars locked on 4 points each points in Group A as well as Aloha Team One and Sotogrande Team One tied on 5 points in Group B. After the total Team scores were tallied up, Sunland and Sotogrande were declared group winners of their respective groups to contest that Final.
In the Under 12 age group the English International College as winners of Group A played Sotogrande Team One as winners of Group B in their Final. Two very exciting finals followed and showed some promising performances from all teams. “This is what it is all about; serious fun for our kids”, was what Greg Gomez, Competition Organiser, had to say at the Prize giving ceremony at the end of the day. Huge praise was heaped on the youngsters for their outstanding efforts and deportment.
