CLIVE WOODBRIDGE RECEIVES GLOBAL AWARD FOR SERVICES TO CRICKET
Clive Woodbridge, one of the founders of Sporting Alfas, and a major influence on the whole of Spanish cricket received a global award on Wednesday the 1st of July for his services to cricket.
The commemorative medal was presented by Richard Holdsworth, the Regional Development Manager of ICC Europe, who was on an inspection trip of the Alfas ground as part of the preparations for the Division 3 championship that will take place in Spain from August 31st to September 6th 2009.
As part of the ICC Centenary celebration 1000 volunteers from around the world received commemorative medals in recognition of their contribution to cricket and reward for their exceptional commitment to the game.
Clive learned he had become a recipient of the award last week and said
” I am honoured that the Cricket España Executive should have submitted my name as a candidate for an ICC Centenary Medal, and naturally delighted that one has been awarded to me. It is certainly a major surprise and something that I will treasure amongst my cricketing memorabilia”
After the presentation ceremony Richard Holdsworth met with the mayor and the local Sports minister to discuss the forthcoming tournament and did interviews with the local press and television to promote the event.
Alfas will host two games involving Spain, against Malta and the Isle of man, and Portugal and Belguim will also play at the venue during the tournament.
