BONALBA COPA DE NAVIDAD

MATCH REPORT 

After two postponements – and the threat of a third after the rain on Saturday night – the Alicante Stars defeated the Intellectuals of Alicante in the inaugural Bonalba Copa de Navidad on Sunday.

The Intellectuals won the toss, elected to field, a decision which looked good after the first three catches were caught and Abdul reduced the Stars to 32 for 3. However Nadeem and Ismail – helped by more familiar Intellectuals failure to hold their catches added 100 for the fourth wicket and despite some tight bowling at the end by David Keeling and Khawar who took two wickets in the last three overs for only 15 runs – the Intellectuals faced a formidable 163.

Laurence McGarry and Tim Richards added 40 for the first wicket but thereafter a series of careless shots and good catching led to a collapse to 79 for 7 – a typical Chris Horne defiance ensured that the whole 20 overs were bowled.

Nadeem with 42 and 3 for 8 was given the Man of the Match Award.
