DENNING TO COACH SPAIN NATIONAL CRICKET SQUAD
The Lancashire Cricket Development Officer Bobby Denning is the new coach of the Spanish Cricket Senior Squad. The 36 year old was introduced to his new players just 24 hours before their Iberian Cup trophy Match againstGibraltarby the Chairman of Cricket España Phil Beal.
When the Leader caught up with Bobby on Saturday during the first of the two 1 Day Internationals against their neighbours at La Manga he said how delighted he was at being approached with an invitation to coach the Spain National side.
“I have a mix of experience and youth” he said. “Quite a number of the squad have played cricket at a senior level and I will be looking at them to use their experience and their influence in our games and to help me bring the youngsters on. We had a good 3½ hour session on Friday which was split between a session in the nets and a chat about our tactics and I really am quite excited about what lies ahead. The important thing that we must all now focus on and aim toward is the Division Three Championships in August next year. We were beaten in the final last year byCroatia. Next year I want to go one better.”
Bobby came into his position highly recommended by European Performance Director, Phil Hudson. Here he is shown (left) being welcomed into his new role by the Chair of Cricket España Phil Beal.
