Catalunya Cricket Club on the winning path
For the second consecutive year Catalunya Cricket Club junior team wins the Barcelona city cup played at,Barcelona at the Camp Municipal Baseball Carlos Perez de Rozas de Montjuïc.
The tournament, organized by the Catalan Cricket Association, started on Saturday 22 September to coincide with the weekend of the “Gran fiestas de Barcelona”, the Day of the Mercè.
The Barcelona City Cup of cricket 2011 was started especially dedicated to young cricket player who are learning this sport and to celebrate along with the festivals of Barcelona.
After this victory of the junior team, Catalunya Cricket Club has established itself as best team in Catalunya and Spain, since last August, the senior team became the champions for the third time in Independence Cup, besides being the champions of Catalan Spanish and cricket leagues in 2010 and 2011.
Last year (2011) this tournament was also won by Catalunya Cricket Club, under the guidance of Mr. Armghan Khan as coach. Armghan Khan is the captain of Catalunya CC senior team, an international player playing in the Catalan and
Spanish selections.
This year (2012) the club has won the tournament in the same way, this time under the guidance of Mr. Akash Kamal, experienced coach in this sport. With the title of coach level 2, Akash Kamal played senior cricket in India at the state (Punjab and Orissa) and has played with well-known players.
A total of six teams ( juniors), representing diverse points of Barcelona, participated in the tournament 2012: Catalunya CC, Cornellà Warriors CC, Santa Coloma (A) CC, Santa Coloma (B) CC , Fund XI CC and Sant Andreu CC.
The big surprise of the tournament was the two teams playing for the first time in the tournament, Sant Andreu CC was classified for the first semifinal, and Cornellà Warriors CC made their place in the Grand Final.
On Sunday 23, Catalunya CC defending their 2011 championship title against Cornellà Warriors, the Warriors won the toss electing to bat first. The Warriors were restricted to the total of 108 runs in 15 overs. But Catalunya Cricket Club the strong team from the origin of Hostafrancs, barcelona , the team lead by Mr. Robert Masih Nahar as president of the club, overcame to the target in 14.3 overs.
Two players of Catalunya Cricket Club, Vinod Kumar and Kuldeep Lal were named the man of the match in two different games and Kuldeep Lal was named man of the match of the final and the “Man of the Series”.
The Barcelona City Cup (U-19) is organized along with the Junior Cricket League of Catalonia, one of the official tournaments in the calendar of the Catalan Cricket Association as more and more young people interested in this sport.
Catalonia Cricket Association is working to create a cricket academy, where four pitches have been already made for the net practicing, the cricket academy will start soon at Barcelona, and will also offer training workshops in schools and sporting institutions designed to show the sport of cricket for Catalan boys and girls.
