The second match of this years Balearic Cup pitted Mallorca against Ibiza.
A heavy defeat for Ibiza the day before to the hosts Menorca was followed by some heavy drinking afterwards and this reflected in their Day Two performance as once again the “White Isle” were heavily beaten.
Batting first Mallorca posted the far reaching score of 281 for 8 from their overs allocation. The pick of the Mallorca batsmen was Ben Vickers who hammered 143 runs for his team.
Ibiza never really got out of first gear when batting and were skittled out for just 71 runs to give Mallorca a 210 run victory.
The final match of the three game series will determine the winner of this years trophy. Mallorca v Menorca starts today at 1.30 pm at the Beniparrell ground, free entry for all spectators.
Match day 1 ended in a 121 run defeat when the hosts posted 239 on the board after being put into bat. The overcast & swirly conditions could have been a defining factor however the home side seized the initiative with 17 year old Jamie Davies scoring a majestic 104. Ibiza didn’t help themselves with several regulation catches going down but Jeremy Parmenter bowled well and took 4 quick wickets which gave the visitors a small glimmer of hope. In reply Ibiza never got going and after falling behind the run rate tried to push on with disastrous results. Adam Johnston was unlucky to be stumped but his dismissal started a collapse which eventually saw Ibiza limp to 118 all out.
