SPORTING ALFAS II TAKE MAXIMUM POINTS FROM ALBOX CC
Sporting Alfas II made it a fantastic weekend for the Albir based club by following up the good work of the first team on Saturday by taking maximum points off their closest rivals Albox CC in Sunday’s top of the table clash in Division 2 of the Costa Blanca League.
The Almeria based club won the toss and elected to bat. Greaves and Lansford opened for the visitors and the left hand, right hand combination troubled the line and length of the Alfas opening bowlers. A ball on the leg side by Cowley was flicked off his legs by Greaves to fall straight into the hands of Braithwaite at fine leg and Albox had lost their first wicket with the score on 13.
Lansford was joined by Ritchie and they put on 36 for the second wicket before Lansford became the second wicket to fall when he was caught by Tasker in Braithwaites second over. Braithwaite coninued to dominate the Albox batting and the local based dolphin trainer ended up with the respectable figures of 2 for 18 off his nine overs.
He was well backed by all the other bowlers, especially Norton and Tasker and the bright start Albox made had fizzled out quickly. By the end of the 27th over they had been bowled out cheaply for only 120 runs.
Alfas had no trouble seeing off such a small total. Abbas was promoted up the batting to open with Evans and the pair raced to 115 in only 19 overs. When Abbas was finally caught by an excellent one handed effort by Ritchie off the bowling of Lansford. he had scored a fantastic 75. The inningsincluded one six and eleven fours and he completed his 50 in just 53 balls. Evans remained undefeated at the end on 30 and it was left to the Alfas captain Faran to hit the winning runs with a huge six to give the hosts maximum points from what looked on paper a tricky game.
Unfortunately, Albox ended with minus 3 points as they only accrued 1 point during the game. Prior to the game they had 4 points deducted by the umpires for having no scorer and only having ten players, SACC II now head the league table with return fixtures against the Intellectuals and Albox being their two remaining league games.
