Thanks to Amout Kok for writing this piece on Andorra cricket. After consultation with ICC Europe Andorra CC will join Cricket Espana and both Spain and Andorra will look to promote cricket between the two countries wherever possible.
The Andorra Cricket Club was formed in 2012 when a touring Dutch team called the Fellowship of Fairly Odd Places Cricket Club requested a match against an Andorran team.
With the help of the British Consulate, Fiona Dean, we were able to get 11 players together and after one short practice we were soundly beaten on the day. The match was also mentioned in Wisdens.
Despite the loss there was great enthusiasm to continue with an official team in 2013. As a result, the Andorra Cricket Club was formed and we now practice twice a week in the ski resort of Arinsal. in June of this year we played a match against a team from Toulouse where we performed much better and narrowly lost in an exciting game. We now have our first away matches booked in Toulouse on the 14/15 September.
Our current squad is made up of the following players, including reserves:
Arnout Kok |
Martin Porter |
Peter Lucas |
Jon Houghton Captain |
Jim Kyle |
Harry Cull |
David Shaida |
Steve Jerome |
Aven Dawson |
Upside Down Steve |
Michael Shaida |
Rodger Hyldon
Ian Carrington
Daniel Carrington
Due to a severe lack of flat ground in Andorra, we use a football pitch in the parish of Ordino which is just about big enough for a decent game. We are on the look out for a bigger field but so far have been unsuccessful.
We are going to design our logo in the next few weeks and we a’re looking forward to playing some teams in Spain as well as France in the coming seasons.
