Portugal became the first winners of the Inaugural Iberian Invitational Cup today when Amigos CC beat Torrevieja CC by 45 runs.
The hosts batted first and it was Torrevieja who were in the driving seat initially with the better start. At one stage the visitors had the Portuguese side struggling at 40 for 5.
However, a strong middle order performance ensured a competitive total was put on the scorebard and Amigos finished their innings on 243 all out in the 40th over.
Torrevieja battled hard but were finally all out for just two runs shy of 200 in the 39th over. Congratulations go to the Amigos on their well fought victory and a team from Spain will look to head to Central Portugal and the Woodlands Cricket Ground next year to etch Spain’s name on the trophy next year.
Well done to both teams in forging links between Portuguese and Spanish Cricket.
