Almanzora CC started their league campaign with a draw against a youthful La Manga side at Desert Springs last weekend.
The Murcia based side batted first and made a huge total on the small ground. At the end of their forty overs they had notched up 365 runs for the loss of just two wickets. The highlight of the day was a fantastic 255 not out from the La Manga opener Simpkins.
He was well supported by the other opener Martin Harbour, who scored 52 and teenager Rupert James who added 25 runs.
In reply, from ball one Almazora played for a winning draw. They achieved that with relative ease, ending with a score of 67 for 3, with one of their openers batting the full duration of their innings for just 15 runs.
La Manga took home 14 points from the confrontation, whilst Almazora had to be content with just four.
