On Sunday the 2nd of July Alicante Stars travelled to Sonseca for the 1st time to play Madrid CC 2nd XI.
With a maximum of 28C forecast, the weather was cooler than normal for July and the wicket looked in good shape.
The biggest challenge was the overgrown outfield with large thistles making life difficult for the fielding side. Despite losing three quick wickets at the start of the innings, Alicante recovered to a decent total of 199 all out, featuring 78 from Nadeem and 76 from Lali Singh.
The Madrid CC innings started equally badly, with the top three batters out quickly with just 3 runs on the board to some accurate pace bowling from Husnain and Usman, before Victor Medina and Sunil Balani steadied the ship with a 50 partnership.
The run-rate was good at the halfway stage but once Sunil went for 56 to a sharp stumping in the 22nd over, wickets fell at regular intervals until Madrid CC were all-out for 153 from 34 overs. Both teams took some fine catches and the game was played in good spirit.
