Alicante Stars made a winning league start in ECCL Division Two with a comfortable victory over Torrevieja.
The debutants won the toss and elected to bat and posted a challenging total on the Torrevieja pitch. Nadeem top scored with 62 and opener Lali Singh posted 38 as the Stars went on to be bowled out for 219 in 39th over.
Youngster Ciaran Gulchard can be very proud of his bowling efforts as he ended up with the superb figures of six for thirty from his eight overs, three of which were maidens.
Torrevieja had an off day with their batting and were skittled out for 121. At one point they were 69 for 7, but Maini, coming in at eight ensured the tail wagged a little and finally finished unbeaten on 39 not out.
Nadeem ended and excellent day for him personally by taking three for eleven including the last wicket of McDowell to confirm his sides victory.
Alicante Stars took 19 points from the contest whilst Torrevieja took seven. Many thanks to Rico and Bill Gaynor for umpiring.
