                                          FAMILIES INSTRUMENTAL IN ALFAS VICTORY

Cricket Season Starts

A clear afternoon in February saw the Sporting Alfas 2´s start with a derby win over local rivals  Intellectuals CC. Alfas batted first having lost the toss and being put in. Marriner and Pennick put on 105 for the first wicket before Marriner on 21 played over the top of a straight one.

Munoz came to the crease and carried on his form from last year and added a 52 run partnership in 5 overs before Pennick retired hurt on 100.
In came one of the clubs new members Duncan Brown for his first match in 13 years, (so he says ) and he put on a 100 for the 3rd wicket with Munoz, with both reaching their 50’s respectively. With both Harry and Tim Marshall adding a few runs at the end SACC reached a total of 287 for 3 in 40overs.

The strong hitting by the Alfas batsmen left the Intellectuals bowlers with some very unmentionable bowling figures.
Intellectuals had to come out blazing to reach such a good total, and blazing they did with both openers skying the ball for Lou Brown and Marshall to take comfortable catches. Even with a very inexperienced attack boasting six under 15´s the Intellectuals stuttered along to 139 all out .

Lewis was the pick of the Alfas bowlers taking 3 for 28, and he was ably supported by Lou Brown (2 for 17) and all the other bowlers, who each claimed a wicket each.
Mention must be made with 3 family’s being represented within the Alfas 11, The Pennick´s, Brown´´s and Marshall´s, all made major contributions to the Alfas win and there could have been a fourth family represented if Pakiam Jr not been injured. A great start to the season, and the Sunday side look forward to next weeks game when they host the first tourists of the year, Gedling and Sherwood.
