Sporting Alfas Cricket Club Sporting Alfas 2nd X1 214 for 9 drew with Levante C C 166 for 8

On a wet and windy day in Albir Sporting Alfas 2nd´s entertained the new boys from Valencia, Levante Cricket Club playing in the clubs first league game. After removing water from a very damp outfield Levante Skipper Jason Noon asked Alfas to set a score.

The new league format stipulates that two 3 hour sessions are to be played, Braithewaite and Byrne opened and both struggled against a very good start by Pilkington and Tivvy. only 25 runs had been scored when Byrne on 13 walked across his wicket and was adjudged LBW. Amir joined Braithewaite and the score ambled along at the same rate until Amir decided to push the rate along and after hitting a 6 and two 4´s gave away his wicket with another airborne shot. 49 for 2 from 15 over´s.

Fletcher then helped the score reach 100 before the departure of Braithewaite for a patient 32. Cooper(2) entered and quickly left allowing Laundon the chance to bat, reaching 30 very quickly and being caught by the keeper diving to his right and holding on to the ball one handed. With time running out Fletcher(65) ran himself out, then the younger Players and Nix took the score past the 200 mark giving SACC 4 batting points but also allowing Levante to reach 4 bowling points by losing quick wickets. Levante began the run chase at a lively 7 runs per over but unluckily gave away 3 quick wickets as Morgan fell to a stunning one handed catch by Braithewaite at mid off, then Hussain walked infront of his stumps Lbw. and then Kakkad gave Bryne a chance which the keeper held. 64 for 3 at drinks.

Noon and ex Alfas player Burchell looked to be taking the game away from SACC but the introduction of Fletcher gave SACC the two wickets that had eluded them in his first over, Burchell(67) going after Fletcher´s first ball gave Tyler Brown a difficult chance which the Spanish youngster took, whilst the ball was airborne the batsmen crossed which took Noon to the batting end, playing and missing Fletcher´s next ball annoyed Noon who then edged to Laundon at first slip. 3 balls two wickets was this going to be Fletcher´s day with the ball?.

Laundon at the other end was proofing difficult to play, with a wicket in his third, fifth and sixth over whilst giving away only 5 runs making the game ever more interesting. the reintroduction of Nix did not entice the Levante lads to chase runs and the game stuttered to a finish at 8 10 pm after 6 hours play.

SACC 214 for 9 from 44 over´s, 13 points. Levante CC 166 for 8 from 51 over´s, 12 points, a good advertisement for the new format in the development league here in Spain

The other game scheduled for the weekend in ECCL2 between Torrevieja and Intellectuals was postponed due to rain and will be re-arranged in due course,
