ALCORCON STRUGGLE TO SEE OFF MADRID

Madrid 2nd XI push Alcorcón close

Madrid CC’s 2nd team came close to pulling off a surprise victory against league leaders Alcorcón CC in their development league match in La Manga on Saturday. Electing to bat after winning the toss, Alcorcón hoped to post a big total but found themselves all out for 176 after just 32 overs.

Rehan was the top scorer with 38 and Shahid Awan posted excellent bowling figures of 3 for 17 off 8 overs. Madrid’s seconds bowled and fielded almost flawlessly in dismissing Alcorcón for their lowest total in a league match this season.

Madrid posted a total of 138 all out, with a superb knock by Jaysheel Sharma (54) and a solid performance from Tim Saunders (26). Akmal was the pick of the Alcorcón bowlers with 3 wickets for 42 off 8 overs.

Alcorcón pick up 18 points for their 38-run victory, while Madrid 2nd XI took 7 points.

Special mention should be given to Hamish Price, a promising junior player, and Gina Price (no relation), the first women to play for Madrid CC in the Spanish league, for their fine performance in the field.
