ALCORCON SCRAPE PAST VALENCIA
Alcorcon 246 all out (19 points) beat Valencia Green (8 points) by 24 runs
Valencia won the toss and eleceted to field. Alcorcon set off at an electric pace with dangerman Tariq Ali continuing his rich vein of vein. From the first 70 runs Ali scored 64 of those runs with only 1 other run coming from the bat. Taking advantage of some dropped chances he reached his 100 in double quick time before being bowled by Mudassar Iqbal with the score on 107.
Soon followed a batting collapse as Alcorcon went from 158 for 1 to 246 all out in the 43rd over. Captain Mohammad Akmal scored 35 and Malik Safdeem 30 but it was a disappointng end to the Alcorcon innings after such a great start, Wasim Waris bowled exceptionally well for Valencia and ended with figures of 4-32 off his 9 overs.
In reply, Valencia set off at an equally blistering pace scoring at 10 an over during the restricted fielding stages. Cantering at 83 for 1 and with Naveed Akhtar well on his way to the matches top score of 144 the home side looked in complete control.
Needing 40 off 20 overs with 6 wickets in hand the Valencia side self destructed and managed to get themselves bowled out for 222, just 24 runs shy of their required total.
For Alcorcon Naresh Kumar had match winning bowling figures of 6-24 off 7 overs, taking the last six wickets in an excellent spell of seam bowling. Valencia were left to reflect on what could and should have been as news filtered through of Sporting Alfas´s loss to Valencia Green in La Manga.
Valencia remain top of the table but their main rivals Alcorcon, Alfas and La Manga all have several games in hand over them and their slender lead should be eclipsed once their rivals have completed their backlog of fixtures
