ALBOX FOIL MOJACAR’S PLAY OFF BID
Despite beating Albox by 124 runs, Mojacar failed to secure the 19 points they needed to overtake La Manga in CE League South for a playoff place against Sporting Alfas 1 on 28 th July. If Mojacar had managed to take one more Albox wicket they would have gone into the playoffs equal on points with La Manga but with a superior Net Run Rate (NRR). Mojacar started the day behind La Manga on NRR, 1.04 to La Manga’s 1.19. Mojacar’s final NRR was 1.22.
Albox won the toss and invited Mojacar to bat. Mojacar amassed 284 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in their 45 overs thanks to an unbeaten century from Ben Parfitt who batted exceptionally well on a brand new carpet to ensure Mojacar gained maximum Batting Bonus points. In reply, Albox stuttered to 160 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. Rory Greaves carried his bat scoring 45 runs in an obdurate innings that ultimately denied Mojacar a coveted semi final spot. Rose and Mundon both took 2 wickets in one over but, for Mojacar, it was not to be.
Result: Win for Mojacar by 124 runs – Mojacar CC 18 points; Albox Cavaliers 4 points
