The Spanish Junior Academy had their first outing of the season this weekend when they played a forty over match against St John’s School of England.
The Academy for this match only used players from the ECCL League. Sporting Alfas and Torrevieja supplied the majority of the players with six members apiece.
Tyler Brown, Adam Algar, Kieran Perman, Jack Perman, Anton Bodneric and James Wallington Smith were the Alfas contigent whilst Torrevieja, current leaders of the ECCL Junior League, supplied Ciaran Guichard, Vishas, Kieran Wood, Dean Scott, Ali Raza and Tommy Knowles. The Stephenson brothers, Tim and Ben of La Manga Kings completed the 14 man playing squad.
St John’s batted first and scored 306 with the first wicket pair putting on 150 for the visitors. The Academy cause was not helped by several dropped catches but the players stuck to the task at hand and battled from the first to last ball of the visitors innings.
In reply, the Academy hit 186 for the loss of nine wickets. Ciaran Guichard, and the Perman boys. Kieran and Jack were the pick of the home sides batting and the whole event proved a fantastic experience.
The boys ages ranged from 13-18 and they always faced a uphill task as the visitors have a strong history of cricket within their public school. April will be a busy month for the various Spanish Academy sides, the under 13’s and 15’s play the equivalent STK Academy’s at La Manga on April 8th and then the Under 13’s play Esher School on three consecutive days, also at La Manga, starting on the 12th April.
The Under 18’s are then back in action at La Manga on the 15th and 16th against Emmanuel School and then the weekend of the 18th and 19th the Under 15’s have two games at Pinatar Arena at Stowe School.
