ALFAS TAKE MAXIMUM POINTS AGAINST A DEPLETED TORREVIEJA SIDE

4th June 2013

Sporting Alfas II returned to winning ways in the league with a convincing victory over a depleted Torrevieja side at the Woodbridge Oval last weekend.

Winning the toss Alfas invited their opponents to bat. A steady start saw the visitors reach 60-2 but a middle order collapse that included three run outs and a stunning catch by Bobby Nix limited the Torrevieja score. They finally ended on 131 all out with veteran Jack Webster top scoring for the visitors. The pick of the Alfas bowlers was the evergreen John Braithwaite who bagged 2-12 from his impressive spell.

In reply Alfas easily chased down the sub par total, largely due to a fantastic 104 not out from Jimmy Amir. He demolished the Torrevieja bowling attack single-handedly hitting nine sixes in his unbeaten century. Alfas ended the day on 134 for 1, taking maximum points from the encounter.

With Alfas, La Manga, Madrid and newcomers Levante all playing good cricket in the new league format this seasons ECCL Division 2 promises to be a tight affair that goes all the way to the last match of the season.
