There was a tense finish to yesterday's league game between La Manga and Alcorcon running out with the Madrid based side the eventual victors by just FIVE runs.
Alcorcon batted first but it was La Manga who drew first blood when the had Alcorcon's key man Tariq Ali stumped of the bowling of Spanish junior international Akash Panchal for just a single. However Alcorcon showed they are more than just a one man team has they paved their way to a respectable 232 for 8 by the close of their innings.
In reply La Manga started well enough with openers Neil Brook and David Williams putting on an half century opening partnership and looked to be well in control of the game and up with the run rate.
A flurry of wickets brought the game back Alcorcon's way but then the pendulum swung again as La Manga's Farhat Mahmood looked to win the game on his own for La Manga.
A crucial point in the game came when Mahmood was out for 54. From then on the runs dried up andthe pressure began to tell on La Manga's late order batsmen. Fine bowling by Sulman and Akmal at the end for Alcorcon ensured the game had one last twist in the tail, as Alcorcon ended up bowling out La Manga for 227 to take the spoils and through the Division One title race wide open.
