The Australian over sixties´s warmed up for the 60+ tournament in La Manga this week with a competitive match with SACC.
The Spitfire tournament, which again involves many SACC player´s, will involve teams from all ovr the world. As a prelude to thir match against a European Over 60´s the Aussies warmed up with a match in Albir at the Woodbridge Oval against a mixture of players from the Sporting Alfas CC stable.
After comfortable wins on their travels so far The Australians found the track at Albir much to their liking and punished anything short of a length, dispatching the ball into the pond with ease, with fifty coming up in the 6th over the mixed SACC side thought it best to change the pace and sure enough it worked and wickets began to tumble, also the 35 run retirement rule, local to the visitors, effected the run rate. 150 was reached at the end of SACC´s 35 over spell with all the youngsters bowling well, helped out by the experience of Bellis and Briathewaite.
Batting second the SACC captain of the day Christian Muñoz led from the front and secured his early retirement quickly, Helped out by the SACC treasurer McKinstry who also batted well but failed to make an early retirement, Ward and Brown got a few more quick runs. Laundon coming in at six decided to give the innings a little run injection and reached his 35 in rapid time which gave the youth of Spanish cricket the chance to shine but unfortunately age proofed the winner and wickets fell steadily until Muñoz and Laundon were recalled to finish the job for SACC, the 151 required coming up in the 30th over
The Australian side expect to win this weeks tournament, and possible will, unless the Sporting Alfas players help Spain put a stop to it in the 5 team competition at the La Manga resort.
On Saturday the 13th, an interclub over 35 under 35 game will be starting at 12-30, with the next visitors being the Nomad´s whom are searching the UK for a team capable of stopping their recent poor run against the Sporting Alfas sides, the 4 games start on Friday the 19th finishing on Monday the 22nd, with a 12-30 start on all days except Sunday when a 2-30 start is expected.
Please come down and meet all the players who enjoy the thrill of Cricket in Spain and has ever please do get involved in the countries fastest growing sport
