DOUBLE JOY FOR TORREVIEJA AND ALFAS IN THE DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE

The ECCL development league had four Twenty/Twenty matches last weekend. In Almeria the away side Torrevieja won both matches whilst at the Woodbridge Oval Sporting Alfas won both matches in the top of the table clash with La Manga.

Saturday saw Torrevieja head south to play their two games against Cazadores. In the first game Cazadores batted first and scored 99 for 5. In reply the visitors knocked off the runs with seven wickets to spare.

Colin Griffiths scored 33 not out and Adam Algar 27 not out in an unbeaten fourth wicket partnership to see their side to victory. As a result Torrevieja got 17 points and Cazadores reached 2 points,one batting and one bowling.

In match 2 Torrevieja posted a score of 167 for 6 off their allocated overs. Youngster Michael Carter opened the batting and top scored with 41.

Cazaodres tried hard to chase down the score but ended up with a total of 107 for 8 at the end of their twentieth over. Torre bowler Baker returned the fine figures of four wickets from 33 runs from his four overs.

Another win for Torrevieja and a further 18 points to their tally. Cazadores took a further 5 points from the game but still remain firmly at the bottom of the Twenty/Twenty development league table.

The following day Alfas and La Manga squared off at the Woodbridge Oval. Game one La Manga batting first and it seemed they had left their batting skills in Murcia. They mustered only 87 for 9 off their overs. Alfas easily saw off the weak total for the loss of just one wicket with Ben Fletcher contributing 43 not out. Alfas 19 points and 1 point for La Manga.

The second game the La Manga batting faired no better. Alfas batted first and scored 107 for 9 with the La Manga bowler Shazad taking five of the home sides wickets.

In reply La Manga could only manage 93 for 5 with Joel Brook top scoring with 30 runs. 14 points went to Alfas and 5 points to La Manga.

The only other ECCL game scheduled for last weekend was in division one and Valencia defaulted on Friday night. As a result Valencia were given minus 20 points and La Manga received a further twenty points.
