MESSAGE FROM THE CRICKET ESPANA CHAIRMAN

21st December 2009

 To All Cricket Espana Members,

On behalf of the Cricket Espana Team, I would like to wish you all a Happy Christmas and A Very Prosperous New Year.

2009 has seen another successful year in the growth of Spanish cricket, and 2010 is already set to see Spanish cricket become stronger and more successful still. We will see our biggest league program to date across the regions, combined with plenty of Twenty/20 cricket.

Cricket Espana will this year partake in the ICC European Under17 Tournament. Our under 17 squad will continue to benefit from our 2010 High Performance Program and will be fully prepared when the tournament arrives.

Our ever expanding ´Schools Cricket Program´ is set to be adopted by many more schools in the coming year. This will see a dramatic rise in the number of young people playing cricket here inSpain, which every sport needs to secure its long term future.

Cricket Espana will be delivering more umpire and coaches courses to continue to help our regions become more self-sufficient. We are committed to the continuation of our financial support for club and facility development.

A special mention of thanks must go to all of the local government and councils that have given us their support and assisted greatly with the development of cricket. With the provision of land for ground development, through to financial support of regional tournaments, these partnerships are imperative if cricket is to continue to grow nationwide.

We will continue to work with the Spanish Sports Ministry to secure recognition of our sport here inSpain, which will be a great benefit. This process is slow, but we are still making good progress towards this goal. We will also be looking to develop a strong relationship with the International Olympic Committee. This is an exciting prospect for cricketing nations worldwide as with recognition of our sport with the IOC should lead to another avenue of support and funding.

Spanish Cricket is held in high regard throughoutEuropeand beyond; therefore we must continue to look to maintain the standards that we have set and where possible raise the bar higher still.

Lastly, I would just like to say a very big thank you to all those that have volunteered in helping across the country at your various clubs, especially as we are all feeling the effects of the current economic climate and the difficulties that come with it. Without your help, the success and growth that Spanish Cricket is experiencing now, would not be the same. Looking forward to the coming year, I hope we all continue working together, with the common aim to give the opportunity to play cricket, to everyone inSpain, who wishes to take part in this great game.
