25th September 2009

SPORTING ALFAS 154 FOR 3 BEAT THE BEARS 153 ALL OUT BY SEVEN WICKETS

The Bears were the latest visitors to grace the Woodbridge Oval as they returned to try and maintain their grasp on the Benidorm Cup. Formed in Berlin over a decade ago the Bears always bring class to Spain, both on and off the pitch, and this year was no exception.

With sevral Spanish based players in their team the Bears batted first and accumulated 153 all out off 36.1 overs. Helsall top scored for the visitors with a fine 51, and Taylor, Spencer and Crompton all bagged wickets for Alfas in a compact bowling performance. Taylor will be particularly pleased to have taken the wicket of Howe, a current Alfas player, who was guesting for The Bears on this occaision.

In reply, Alfas lost their opener quickly for one but an unbeaten 75 from the other opener Spencer was enough to see the home side comfortably home. He was ably supported by all-rounder Crompton who capped off a good day with 56 not out. and in the end Alfas came out comfortable winners to regain the Benidorm Cup by seven wickets.
