CORDOBA AND MALAGA KICK OFF SOUTHERN LEAGUE

10th May 2009

MALAGA EDGE HOME BY 10 RUNS IN SOUTHERN LEAGUE OPENER

Cordoba Cricket Club played their first game in the Southern league this weekend against Malaga and both clubs conjured up a feast of cricket that saw the away team win by just 10 runs.

The toss was won by Malaga and they elected to bat and off their allocated overs they notched up 218 all out with Waqas scoring 41. A telling factor in the Malaga effort were the 61 extras that Cordoba conceded towards the home sides total.

Cordoba`s reply was again peppered with extras from the Malaga attack, but a valiant effort by the home side saw the hosts fall just 10 runs short of the run chase as they were finally all out for 208.

As a result Malaga received 18 points to Cordoba`s 8 points and they claimed the initial bragging rights until the return fixtures takes place later on in the season. The two teams are the only entrants in the Southern league this year and they will play five 40 over matches in total, three home and away, with the winner being invited to represent the Southern league at La Manga on finals weekend.
