The 2009 Spanish league season got under way last weekend with two fixtures on consecutive days at the new ground in Tarragona. First up were Barcelona and Cataluyna. Top scorer in the Barcelona innings was Basharat, who scored 39 not out, and he was well supported by Shazad who scored 35 runs.

On Sunday, Bengali entertained Pakistan Punjab in what proved to be a low scoring affair. Punjab batted first and could only manage 98 all out in 25.2 overs, but Bengali suffered a similar batting fate and were dismissed for 71, 27 runs short of their target. There were good bowling performances on each side for Khasif (3-17) and Obaidul (3-20) respectively.
