19th February 2009

INTRODUCTORY UMPIRE AND COACHING COURSES CONFIRMED BY CE

CE have confirmed they will be running three in house Umpire courses prior to the start of the Spanish league season. These will also be complemented by two in house coaching courses that will be held in La Manga and Lanzarote respectively.

The Umpire courses will be overseen and run by Ron Graham, Spain´s representative on the ICC Europe panel. The first course will be at Campoamar Golf Club on March the 7th and is already full. 15 candidates have been accepted for this course and they represent seven different clubs up and down the East coast of Spain. La Manga, Mojacar and Alfas have three representatives each on the course, and Bengali CC two representatives. Intellectuals, Albox and Falco complete the line up.

Candidates will be cover various topics including The role of the Umpire, The lbw law, main dismissals and calls and signals given to the scorers. The same course will be then taken to Madrid in the end of March and Lanzarote in the begining of April. These too will be co-ordinated and run by Ron Graham.

The coaching courses are earmarked for the end of February and the begining of April and will be run by the Spanish national coach and Lancashire CC employee Bobby Denning.

Bobby Denning, who combines his role as coach of Spain with overseeing the Lancashire youth sides from under-11 to under-14 level, has recently completed the ECB Level IV coaching badge.

He becomes one of a select band of around 100 people - former England coach Peter Moores among them - to achieve the highest coaching qualification available in England and Wales.

The prestigious course covers all aspects of the game, from technical matters and bio-mechanics to psychology and motivational skills and he will be putting his skills to good use in La Manga at the end of February when he complements a Spanish National Coaching weekend with an introductory coaching course.
He will then accompany Ron Graham to Lanzarote in April were he will offer the same course and a four hour session with the Lanzarote Colts who played in the Lanzarote league as Collegio Hispana Colts last season.
