MCC Legacy Junior Cricket Festival La Manga 2011 

 

Cricket Espana held a number of Junior Cricket Events this weekend through the MCC Legacy grant. 

Events were held in Lanzarote,Barcelona,Madridand La Manga with around 300 children taking part in all types of events. 

Barcelona held a Junior Cricket tournament in the Montjuic Olympic site with around 60 players taking part in a 20.20 Junior tournament organized by members of Cataluña Cricket association. 

In the Capital Madrid as part of Madrid CC Youth Development Program and sponsored by Cricket España we have organized an open day for juniors to introduce them to cricket. The Open Day was held on Saturday 14th May, at the “Rey Juan Carlos” university,Alcorcon. Activities were supervised by CE qualified coaches and included learning basic skills with exercises and games to develop these skills. 

The youngsters (and parents) also had the opportunity to see a 20/20 cricket match between a Madrid CC team and a guest team on the adjoining cricket field.

 Lanzarote Cricket association held a non stop cricket day, with batting and bowling coaching, a throwing competition with lots of different types of games to keep the children interested this was held on the 15th May at Puerto del Carmen Football Ground. 

The ñast event was held at La Manga club where over 100 children took part in various Cricket events which include 7 a side soft ball matches throwing and catching competitions with a hard ball 20.20 match was played as the final event of the day a planned coaching session to be held by Cricket espana group of new level 1 coaches had to be cancelled due to poor weather in the morning.

 Presentations were held at the end of all events with some wonderful prizes sponsored by Cricket Travel which included Newberry Bats, shirts and other various cricket items.

 Cricket Espana would like to thank all the volunteers’ coaches and parents who help to organised all these events, without there support we wouldn’t have the opportunity for the children to play our much loved Game.
