Costa del Sol CC 193 all out v Mijas Costa CC 156 all out

Costa del Sol cc won by 38 runs

Costa del Sol CC lost the title of New Boys on the Block to newly formed Mijas Costa CC, but won the toss and batted first.  You’d never have known that MCCC’s mix of old friends of local cricket and a few new faces hadn’t laid hand on bat or ball for five years or more.  Their opening bowlers Roger and Kevin pegged the batsmen down to around 4 runs an over for the first ten overs.  During that time Costa del Sol lost Phil, run out by yards by a super throw from Matt, then Gavin and Peter, both bowled by Roger.

Change bowlers Jonathon, Keith and Geordie continued the good work, taking a wicket each to leave Costa del Sol in deep trouble on 60 for 6 after 14 overs.  MCCC were in a dominant position and Costa del Sol needed to dig in.  Tony and Imthias did that and more, staying together for 9 overs and putting on 71 runs in the process.  131 for 7.  The Costa del Sol tail was vigorously wagging by now and Tony, Morly and Nick took the score on to 187 before Mick was last man out with the score on 193.

MCCC’s opening batsmen were not to be outdone by their opening bowlers.  Batting with controlled aggression they took the score along to 68 after just 8 overs - double the scoring rate of their opponents.  Four overs later a much sorrier tale emerged.  First change bowler Tony took two wickets in his first, the 9th over and another two in his second, the 11th.  Nick grabbed another in the 12th over to leave MCCC reeling on 82 for 5.

By the 18th over it was 116 for 8.  MCCC were determined not to give up, looking for every opportunity to score and putting on 24 runs for the 9th wicket.  Even at 9 wickets down they were still going for it, only to be foiled by a splendid caught and bowled by Imthias diving to his left it.

All in all a very creditable performance by MCCC who must be greatly heartened by giving Costa del Sol a real fright on their debut.

Man of the Match award must go to Tony Crooks of Costa del Sol for his 58 runs scored at a time of desperate need, followed up by his devastating four wickets in two overs for final figures of 5 overs, 4 for 16.
