CRICKET ESPANA ACADEMY V TOM MAYNARD TRUST - GAME TWO

23rd February 2017

Game two proved an even tougher baptism in the field for the Spanish Academy. The Tom Maynard Trust again batted first and got off to a flyer with openers Josh Bohannen and Ryan Davies hitting 65 runs without loss in the first seven overs.

Davies, the Somerset batsmen finally went for 51, but the Lancashire youngster, who got a duck in the earlier game completed a fantastic century to help give his side the formidable total of 210 for 6 at the interval.

The TMT score was given an additional imputus at the end by Connor Brown of Glamorgan. After his man of the match performance in the first game he came in at the end of the visitors innings and smashed 14 runs off three balls in the final over to take the visitors score past the two hundred mark.

In reply the Spanish team started off slow reaching 18 for 1 off the first five overs. However, the next three overs yielded 46 runs and put the hosts back into the game. By the tenth over Spain had reached 85 and Yasir Ali had completed an unbeaten half century, but on the flip side they had also lost another wicket.

Ali continued to play a controlled innings and became the second centurion in the match, ending unbeaten on 114. However Spain struggled to score at the required run rate and the TMT total proved to be just a step too far. The hosts finally ended on 167 for 3 just 43 runs shy of the competitive total.

Many thanks go to Matt Maynard and all his staff for allowing two of the Spanish Academy to spend a day with them at Desert Springs and to the players of the TMT in giving the Spanish opportunity to play against such quality opposition. We wish the touring party a safe trip back to the UK and we hope to see the TMT back in Spain again in 2018.
