MARBELLA STARS BEAT TORREMELINOS IN FIRST LEAGUE PLAY OFF

14th September 2014

Favourites Marbella Stars took a one-nil lead in the best of three Southern League play off final yesterday to put themselves in prime position for a visit to the regional finals at La Manga in the first week of November.

Torremelinos batted first and score 137 for 8. Several of the top players got starts but none went on to deliver a telling contribution. Zanaan's 26 was the highest score whilst Affad and Irfan took two wickets each for Marbella.

In reply, the Stars lost seven wickets in chasing down their target. Shoaib and Asif both scored 37 and 36 respectively to put a big dent in the Torremelinos score but after they both departured there was a slight wobble until Malik and Sameer saw the game home for Marbella.

The second of the three match series takes place later this month and if Marbella win they will be invited to this years national finals to compete with the winners of the ECCL Premier, Cataluyna and Lanzarote leagues.
